History of Jogokaryan Ramadhan Village

The Ramadan tradition in Jogokariyan has been going on for more than 18 years. Initially, at that time there were no food sellers during the fasting month around the Jogokariyan Mosque. At that time, only free fast-breaking food was distributed to people around Yogyakarta who needed it.

The mosque has long been known for distributing free iftar meals during the month of Ramadan. Initially, the food distribution was around 600 to 700 plates, but over time, the number continued to increase to reach 3000 plates per day during Ramadan. The high enthusiasm of visitors meant that the food was finished in a very short time.

To overcome this, the committee started providing bread as an alternative for people who wanted to break their fast if food had run out. Then, the idea arose to invite traders to that location.

At first, the Jogokariyan Ramadan market only consisted of a few traders offering typical Ramadan food and drinks. However, as the popularity of the Jogokariyan Ramadan market increases, the number of traders and visitors also increases.

In 2009, the Yogyakarta City Government participated in the development of Jogokariyan Ramadhan Village by providing support in the form of funds and management. This action helped increase the fame of Kampung Ramadhan Jogokariyan as one of the famous Ramadan tourist destinations in Yogyakarta.

Currently, Jogokariyan Ramadhan Village has become one of the most famous main Ramadan tourism destinations in Yogyakarta. Here, visitors can enjoy various typical Ramadan culinary delights such as compote, fruit ice, dates, and various other types of takjil.

Not only that, Jogokariyan Ramadhan Village in Yogyakarta also offers various interesting entertainment events for visitors, such as music performances, dances, stage art, and various religious activities such as recitation of the Koran, tausiyah, and breaking the fast together.
