The annual fine art festival ARTJOG returns this year from 20 June to 31 August 2025 at the Jogja National Museum, Yogyakarta, as the final installment of the MOTIF trilogy initiated by curator Hendro Wiyanto in 2023. Through its array of programs, ARTJOG 2025 Motif: Amalan aims to reconfigure the conventional perspective on art, which judges art solely on its aesthetic value, by evaluating the contributions of artistic practice to wider society.

For its exhibition program, ARTJOG extends a special invitation to Anusapati (Yogyakarta) and REcycle-EXPerience (Bandung) as Commissioned Artists in tackling the theme of Motif: Amalan. The sculptor Anusapati produced an art installation using scrap wood to reflect the discourse on environmental damage. Meanwhile, an artistic project led by REcycle-EXPerience, founded by Evan Driyananda and Attina Nuraini in 2006, delivers a giant robot made from pre-loved toys. Visitors may also donate their spare toys to contribute to the piece.

To present how artistic practice may take an active role in the livelihood of art and the wider public, the Special Project program presents three participative works from Murakabi Movement (Yogyakarta), ruangrupa (Jakarta), and DEVFTO Printmaking Institute (Bali). As a movement of creativity and exploration, Murakabi Movement will involve audience members in deepening the understanding between individuals and their environment on a daily basis. On the other hand, the art organisation ruangrupa has developed a method of joint learning to grasp the urban space’s transformations through the art approach, which rests on the wealth of locality. Meanwhile, alongside the exhibition of a series of works produced in their graphic arts studio, DEVFTO Printmaking Institute will also hold various workshops that focus on exploring printmaking techniques for artists.

ARTJOG 2025 also introduces a new program titled Spotlight to integrate the world of fine art with other formal sectors. This program will present an art installation from Reza Rahadian as part of a project commemorating his 20-year career in the world of performance arts. The piece titled Eudamonia is the culmination of his collaboration with a number of creators and artists from a variety of fields, including Garin Nugroho (Director), Siko Setyanto (Choreographer), Aditya Surya Taruna (Composer), Andra Matin (Architect), dan Davy Linggar (Photographer and Videographer).

Every year, ARTJOG makes a continuous effort to provide the services and facilities, and encourages the active involvement of friends with different abilities in each of its editions. This time, ARTJOG aims to widen this area of involvement by opening more opportunities for artists with different abilities to develop their practice and platform in the art world. Working with Open Arms, an inclusivity program from Selasar Sunaryo Art Space, Love🤟ARTJOG will conduct mini art residencies where participants are invited to network and share knowledge in several artist studios. In addition to the art residency, Love🤟ARTJOG is also planning a direct form of inclusion through peer mentoring for the differently abled in ARTJOG 2025, especially for younger children.

In addition to the accommodation of an array of performers from the open call selected together with Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation, this year’s performa•ARTJOG invites Bottlesmoker together with Rumah Atsiri Indonesia as the commissioned artist to interpret the theme of Motif: Amalan through performance arts. performa•ARTJOG will also be collaborating with a number of performing arts producers to present several special performances, such as with Garasi Performance Institute presenting the work of Ishvara Devati (performance artist) and Lembana Artgroecosystem (art and agriculture community), then with Liquid Architecture presenting performances from Tralala Blip (a group of disabled musicians from New South Wales), and IFI Yogyakarta with performances by Ko Shin Moon (electronic music project) and Rouge. The performa•ARTJOG stage will take place every week during the implementation of ARTJOG.

Throughout the event, ARTJOG 2025 – Motif: Amalan will continue to present its supporting programs, namely the Young Artist Award, Exhibition Tour, Meet the Artist, Artcare Indonesia, and Jogja Art Weeks. Moreover, this year’s line of Merchandise Project products is more packed than ever through collaborations with various artists, creators, and named brands such as Dagadu and Rumah Atsiri Indonesia. Soon to be available on-site and in various marketplaces.

Entry tickets to ARTJOG can be purchased online through the website and ticket boxes on-site for Rp80.000,00 (adults) and Rp50.000,00 (children). Further information regarding the schedule and program can be accessed through the ARTJOG website (www.artjog.id) and social media accounts.
