Alun-alun Kidul, which is often called Alkid or in Indonesian, Alun-alun Kidul, is the southern part of the Yogyakarta Palace. Currently, Alkid has become a public space for the community. Various activities can be found at Alkid. As the afternoon approaches evening, Alkid becomes a people’s recreation area that is a shame to miss.

At Alkid, various food vendors are available. At night, Alkid also becomes a cycling tourist spot. Bicycle owners rent various tandem bicycles and tricycles decorated with bright lights. Alkid is also a sports venue that is popular with Yogyakarta residents.

In the middle of the square, there are two old banyan trees bordered by the fort fence. This banyan tree is an interesting game object. Based on the beliefs of the people of Yogyakarta, passing these two trees with your eyes closed will help you achieve your goals. Many tourists try this game.

Alun-alun Kidul also has an elephant enclosure belonging to the Yogyakarta Palace. In the past, children often rode these elephants for entertainment. Even though this entertainment is decreasing, the term elephant cage is still known among the public.

The location of Alun-alun Kidul south of the Yogyakarta Palace makes it easy for tourists. Just find Kraton Yogyakarta and follow the road south, then you will arrive at Alun-alun Selatan Yogyakarta.
